Bringing forth the best within each of us through creativity, sustainability, and personal growth.
Resilience
Our objective is to advance permaculture, and to demonstrate how people can move into economic independence and self-sufficiency. This can potentially improve the economic environment by disseminating knowledge related to food production, ecology, artwork, and sustainable cultural activities.
In addition to the economic stability and independence achieved through permaculture, the community grows resilient to natural disasters. By developing critical resources independent from external sources, the community becomes able to survive a disaster and continue to function self-sufficiently, and begin rebuilding without government or outside aid. The community is strengthened by creating a climate of interaction and mutual support. The value of this approach has been recently underscored by Hurricane Iselle, which left many families without power for several weeks, and by the lava flow which threatened to dramatically isolate lower Puna by cutting off the main highway.
By practicing sustainable art forms, the culture is enlivened and an example of a balanced way of life is demonstrated. Art is more than creating a product; art is something you live. Permaculture is more than an agricultural methodology; it involves developing a sustainable lifestyle.
